VB RnR and BIH Training Weekly Wrap #5

Good Morning ! How is everybody doing today? I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday weekend!

I'm linking up with Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap post.

Last week flew by, and parts dragged on too long, but after the long holiday weekend, I'm back to work and ready for another week of training!

Monday - Zumba with Susan, and 2 miles of track exercises and sprints.
Thursday - 3.75 Miles #WeRunAsOne with Fleet Feet Group and Kettle bell circuit
Saturday - Carlisle Summer Fair 10K
Sunday - 10 miles Long Run

Monday was hot and sticky, we ran in the local park. Roger wanted us to do some sprints in preparation for the 10K later that week.

Thursday I headed out to the Fleet Feet run. It was a bit hot, but I felt ready. We were doing 3.75 miles, and all was feeling good. Until mile 1.4, my calves started to hurt, and they hurt bad! I walked for a long time, because I couldn't shake the pain off.

While at Fleet Feet, I picked up a new Nuun Flavor, and I'm hooked! Lemon Lime is my favorite flavor now!

I picked up my #runasone shirt and New Nuun

Went home and did a kettle bell circuit, followed by long stretching.

Saturday, We did the Carlisle Fair 10K. I beat my last 10K time, with a finish time of 52.22. Recap on that race later this week. *Spoiler alert * I got a blister.

I look really short in this picture!! Well, I guess I AM really short

After my blister, I am now afraid of my Feeatures socks.

On Sunday we were up bright and early for our 10 miler. I was a bit tired and sore from the race the night before, but I was determined to do my 10 miles that day. Roger tried to talk me out of doing the run, but I didn't budge. Normally it's me trying to convince him to skip the run.

Roger Not Ready to Run

After the long run, and a quick nap and shower, we headed out back to Carlisle for the Harrisburg Symphony Concert. It was really good, we enjoyed it a lot! We ate fries and chicken, and a loaf of Italian bread we picked up at Wegmans. I should have packed a picnic, but the concert was a last minute decision.

Totals

  2. Woot! Nice job at the 10K! I had a pretty low key weekend because the weather wasn't (and still isn't) all that great. No races or concerts. I'm extending my holiday weekend though and going to go hike in the rain this afternoon with a friend who is visiting from out of town.

    1. Raquelita, a hike sounds like an amazing way to extend the holiday ! I hope you have better weather soon !

  3. I can't wait to hear more about your 10k. I hate when socks I usually trust give me blisters. It makes me question everything!

Also, nice job on those 10 miles. If someone tries to talk me out of a long run, chances are I'll give in unless I'm training for something specific. I just love sleeping in so much haha ;)

    1. Ali, I agree ! running early on a Sunday Morning is not as much fun as sleeping in!

I am glad I'm not the only one who questions everything when trusted items cause issues !

  4. Congrats on beating your 10k time! That is exciting! I'm glad your shin splints are gone too. I got them once really bad for no apparent reason!

HEY we were going to go to the HSO concert but then decided to be homebodies! That would have been funny if we went and if I would have spotted you!!

    1. Megan, it would have been great to see you at the concert, but staying in sounds so comfy ! My son wanted to stay home and watch tv too! But I dragged him out !

  5. Congrats on the race, but sorry about the blister! Those are the worst and I feel like it can be tough to get them to go away.

    1. Lisa, thanks ! I was hoping I was done with the blister stage, as I was covered in Vaseline, but I was wrong !

  6. Wow - that is a KILLER 10K time! Can't wait to read your full race recap! I'm amazed that you ran a 10-miler the day after, too, especially after doing sprints earlier in the week. You are really tearing it up! Sorry to hear about the blister, too. I hope it heals quickly. Outdoor concerts are the best in the summertime, especially when you can bring your own eats!!!

    1. Thank you Emily! People bring a whole picnic to the outdoor concerts here! Every year we spot people with wine bottles too !

  7. Congrats on that awesome 10k finish and AG award!

Why do you think you got a blister?

    1. Thank you Wendy! I think... And it's my only theory... There was a small rock inside my shoe, and that caused the extra friction and the blister.

  8. Hope your shins / legs are feeling betteR. If I am not perfectly warmed up, my lower legs tighten for any and all kinds of speed work. immediately tighten. So I usually have to run at least 30 minutes to losen everything up.

As far as blisters go, I put cream on my feet every night which keeps the skin in perfect condition. No blisters ever. Having said that, I am not a fan of Feetures... I have several pair and they don't stay on my feet. Probably too small but frustrating because they are expensive.

  9. I won't wear Feetures in a race because they gave me a horrible set of blisters during a half marathon, even after training in the same socks! It was very humid that day so I figure it was the extra moisture. But, I use Trail Toes now and haven't had blisters since! Congrats on the 10k! That's a great finish time! You know, I have never used a Kettle Bell. That might me something I should explore. Thanks for linking, Ana!

  10. Yes we went to a 4th of July concert. We saw Toby Keith and it was held on the Great Lawn at Harrahs Casino! He did an amazing job!
Congratulations on your race and awesome time! I hate blisters I hope it was just a one time thing.
