Friday Five 6.30.17

Hello! how are you today? How is your day going? I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness  .  Today I bring you 5 random updates in my life.  1. I have put on weight- about 3-4 pounds ... truth is, I'm not sure. I don't own a scale, and only weight myself when I'm at my parents, waiting for the water in the shower to warm up. Last I checked  I weighted 123lbs... up from the 6 months before at 118. I can feel it... I get tired faster when running, but I don't see it. My clothes all fit fine, nothing needs replaced. I was going to lie and say I didn't know where the extra weight came from, but the coke I have for lunch every day would tell on me right away. I'm not worried about it. 2. Stop calling me every 5 minutes to ask me if I'm busy! - Ever since I got promoted at work, it has all been busy non stop, ALL THE TIME! The was a giant stack of papers on my desk that wasn't moving, until this

Questions about Immigrating

If all my Facebook page was updated with everything that happened in my life, it would be telling me now that 20 years ago, we were getting ready to move to the USA. It would remind me of the memories of preparing to leave our entire lives behind, while still being partially in denial that it was going to happen.  In August, it will be 20 years that we have lived in the USA, and in August 20th, it will be exactly 20 years that we arrived in Pennsylvania.  A few random facts, because some have asked:  Where in Mexico Am I From? Yuriria Guanajuato , in the center of the country, about 5 hours north east from Mexico City. Our region of the state specializes on manufacturing clothing, and textiles. My town has a small industry in fishing and farming.  Do I still have family in Mexico ? Yes, my aunts, uncles and cousins live there. And, about 60% of my cousins live there. Other cousins are spread out through the USA, mainly in Chicago IL. My siblings all live in Chester countr

Workouts   Tuesday - 2 mile run  Wednesday - 6 easy mile run Thursday - 2 easy miles Saturday- 20 min weights Sunday - 8 miles Long run  On Tuesday Morning  I  woke up to an awesome  surprise , my niece had been born!! she arrived 2 weeks earlier than her expected arrival, but was welcome with lots of love from the family.  I was sad that I couldn't get out of work to go visit her, we had a lot of people out that day, and this made me the responsible adult in the office.  I had agreed to met my running buddy Jodi for some pictures for her ambassadorship Crazy Compressions, which I guess makes me a sock model... right?    After the photos, I did a quick mile with the Harrisburg beer runners. Picture from the Harrisburg Beer Runners FB Page Then headed to Chester County to meet my niece. I drove to Chester County hospit

Happy Friday! What a week it has been! I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness . The theme today is Summer Treats. As I have told you before, I enjoy the summer, the sunshine, the heat, the long days! I generally live life harder in summer, than in other season... here are my 5 summer indulgences 1. The Sun- Summer has been around for barely 2 days, and my running tan game is going strong, stronger than in any other year! My feet are white, my neck has the racer back lines and my legs are pale where my shorts end. It is glorious!! And I love how long the days are!!  2. The Heat - I really should say the sweating! I know the most people hate the sweating and the constant heat, but I love basking on the misery of the heat and sweat!! *** somebody remind me of this words in a month, when I will be likely cursing the heat.  3. The clothes - My days at work are spend on dress black pants, dress shirt and a jacket... I do

Happy Monday! I hope you had a awesome weekend!!   I'm   linking up with  Tara ,  Holly  and  Tricia  this week for the Weekly Wrap. Week was busy again, but more balanced out and less hectic. Here is a brief look at my week Workouts Monday: 4 miles easy run Thursday: 4 miles tempo + Weights Friday: 2 miles with sprints + weights Saturday: 2 miles Sunday: 8 mile long run Running There was a lot of running and my shins are not happy with me at the current moment. I've been working on getting up before work to run, but that requires me to go to bed earlier... which is also a work on progress. I need to adjust what time I go to bed, but there is just so many things to get done each night before work/school! Family My son is off from school and back for his vacation with his Dad. I was so happy to see him after 13 days !! That is the longest I have ever gone without seeing him! On Thursday , I took off from work and we had a nice breakfast at Bob Evans.

Friday Five- Father's Day Weekend

Happy Friday!! How is your week going? I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness .  This weekend is Father's Day, and I'm dedicating this Friday Five to my Dad. Here are 5 awesome facts about my Father. 1 . My Dad was supportive of our Education . If you remember, my Mom was very progressive for her time, and always wanted us to focus on our education, rather than on preparing for being somebody's wife. My Dad never fought her on it, even when his own family would pick on him about us not knowing how to make tortillas at the age of 8. 2. My Dad taught me to deal with Car problems ... on his own way. My Dad taught us how to drive, showed us how to change the oil (We didn't quite learn it), check tire pressure, fill the tires. So one day when I was in college, my car wouldn't turn on, I called my Dad and his answer still rings in my head "What are you calling me for? I can't fix it. Find somebody

Marathon Woman

I first read about Kathrine Switzer while scrolling through Pinterest. That horrific picture of Jock Semple trying to pull her off the Boston race brought me to a puddle of tears. I was at work and had to leave my desk to calm myself. At the time, I was training to run my first half marathon, and running had brought me a lot of relief to stress at work and at home, and imagining somebody trying to take that away from me broke me. I read up her story on Wikipedia, but it didn't occur to me to look up her book at the time.     I ordered the book from Amazon when I saw the recommendation on Wendy's blog . Source : Runner's World I have read 5 running books, with Born to Run being my favorite to this date. But some felt forced; like Frank Shorter's, which was recommended by NPR. As soon as I started reading Marathon Woman, the book felt easy to read, and very well written. Ms. Switzer gives great details on how she started running, and leading up to the excit

Happy Monday!! How are you today? How was your weekend?   I'm   linking up with Kim ,   Holly  and  Tricia  this week for the Weekly Wrap. This last week was busy and crazy, but lots of fun and excitement happened. Workouts Monday: Zumba with Cat Wednesday: Big Run 5K and weights Friday: 2 mile hike My son has been wit his Dad since Thursday June 1st, they were at the beach all of last week, and I was desperately missing him! I knew this week was coming, so I made plans to stay busy each and everyday... otherwise, I would want to go home, watch TV and drink wine the rest of the night. On Monday I went to Zumba, which was sweaty and hot, but worth the sweat. On Tuesday  I met the lovely Megan for happy hour. We talked for hours, and we could have carried on talking for a few more! Megan is such a wonderful kind, smart and strong woman, I wish you all could hang out with her IRL! Wednesday was Global Running day, in the time I have been running, I had

Summer Plans

Happy Friday!! How is your day going? I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness . The theme today is Summer Spots.  I am fortunate to get every other Friday off from work, and this allows me to spend extra time with my son on fun trips in the summer. Last year, our goal was to have a trip for each of the Fridays, that would not cost us too much money.... Mommy has to save money for all the races she signs up for...  This year, we hope to replicate that. Here are 5 places we plan to visit this summer that won't break the bank. 1. Philadelphia Pa. I have visited Philadelphia multiple times in my life, it's a beautiful city with a lot of things to do. We hope to visit Reading Market, the Liberty Bell and Penn's Landing. The only cost I'm associating with this trip is the driving, parking and eating. My son is a picky eater, so we pack what he likes to eat and occasionally he will request a chicken tender... wh
