Recovery Week and Runfessions

Image
Hello beautiful world! how is everybody doing today? I'm double dipping on link ups today! I missed Friday's Runfessions because I was off from work, and as much as I tried to read and post while hanging out with Roger, he demanded all of my morning attention. And my afternoon/ evening attention went to my son. I look total crazy, but I love this picture! I'm linking up with Marcia for the April Runfessions.  April Runfessions Also linking up with  Holly and Tricia for their Weekly Wrap post.     Anyway, enough with my life ramblings, and on to running/ training ramblings.   Monday - After the Gettysburg Marathon , went to work and had a busy rest day. I went in two hours late, because I didn't want to be rushing to get myself moving in the morning. My son, who on any weekday I have to drag out of bed at 6:50, was up and ready for life at 6:25 am! I let him watch morning cartoons, while I slowly got ready. I only recorded a ...

Gettysburg Marathon Training Week #11

Image
Last week I skipped my training log, and did a Good Bye to Rita instead, after she passed away unexpectedly. Her passing had an effect on training for Roger, who had been with Rita for 13 years. So this week, trying to bounce back, and recover from the R 'n R DC Half Marathon. Monday- Rest day. Tuesday- Blue Man Day Wednesday - 1 hour of zumba, and 30 minute easy run Thursday - Rest Friday- 20 mile long run Saturday - Rest day Sunday - 6 mile progression run, 3 easy miles and 30 minutes of weights I hope everybody already knows this, but use this as a cautionary tale... tell your friends that you have a friend, who has a friend who this happened to....The Saturday of the Half Marathon, Roger and I used the portable toilets before starting the race. We waited a long time in line to use them. Race started at 7:30, but there were lots of corrals, leaving every 2 minutes. We were still in line when the first 5 corrals wer...

Training Week #5

Image
My legs are in pain right now and I want to go home and keep sleeping.... but adulting is getting on the way... you know, with having to be at work. So, last week we decided to change up the training days cycle, to adjust for longer runs. It's all complicated because of my custody schedule, and I will not bore anybody with those details, but our training week will now be a Monday to Sunday week. So Training Week #4 will now have also included the Ice Fest 5K, and 12.5 miles of running. We had warm temperatures on Sunday and Monday, and this melted a lot of snow from our running trails. Monday 2.01.16  - Rest. After those exhausting 3 miles the day before! Tuesday 2.02.16 - A little bit of everything 30 minutes of weights with Roger. Let me say that, I do the exercises he gives me, but I don't know what they are called. I only know they worked because everything is sore the next three days. 1 hour of Zumba with Susan 3 mile tempo run on the treadmill- I was ...

Marathon training is kicking my butt! my legs hurt right now, and I barely ran yesterday. Sunday January 17th 14 Miles, Half Marathon pace. I begrudgingly skipped Sunday Zumba for our super long run. Training Week January 10th- January 16th

After celebrating my son's birthday on Saturday and consuming some bigger amounts of sweets than planned, training week was off to a bit of a rocky start. Sunday 1.10.16 Long run that was cut short. Ran 8 miles , of the 13 we were scheduled for. Few complications were the strong wind, hunger and knee pain. Monday 1.11.16 1 hour of Zumba with Susan. 25 minutes of strength training with Roger Tuesday 1.12.16 Rest Day Wednesday 1.13.16 Rest Day Thursday 1.14.16 Tempo Run 3.67- We did a group run with Fleet Feet Mechanicsburg . They do group runs every Thursday night, and I've been asking Roger to come with me to one for a long time, he finally agreed to go. It was nice to run with a group, even though we felt we were super slow, because the first 10 runners were super fast. Friday 1.15.16 Treadmill 3.10 miles and 30 minutes of weights Oh, Friday! Friday was a stressful day. I was busy non stop at the office all day. Then got stuck i...

The Best of my year - Songs

Aaaahhh... It has been another amazing year! Ok, Dear Random Strangers... if anybody is reading this... I enjoy writing down what the best things of my year were, this will be the first year I'm posting them online. Running has gotten me in touch with new song, and reminded me of old favorites. Here are a few that kept my legs moving on both, long and short runs. Pitbull and Gente De Zona- Piensas I don't listen to the radio, I don't watch TV, but I am addicted to Instagram, and I first saw about this song on The Most Bad Ones Instagram page. For anybody who doesn't know, The Most Bad Ones are the official Pitbul dancers, who are amazing! Total women crush! I wish to learn to dance like them. I listened to this song most of the summer and played during most of my long runs. Francesca Maria- Popee- Zumba version I first heard Francesca Maria at Zumba with her song Dale, one of my favorites from last year. And this year Popee became another favorite. I practice...

Divorce, Running and Positive Thoughts

Image
Long, long ago, before I started doing zumba, before I started the running, while I was married and constantly stressed out, I used to have a long parade of negative thoughts running trough my inner monologue. I didn't realize this, or the effect this was having on my self esteem and my attitude towards everybody around me. When I started doing Zumba, I was at an all time low. Demoted from work, had been sick for 1 week, then my son had been sick, I had fallen while carrying my son and he had a huge bruise on his forehead... so my inner monologue was at a ultimate time high. The thoughts constantly on my mind were along the lines of " You are the worst mom ever, you are so fat, you are so stupid, you are useless". I was not fat, or overweight, but I was at my highest weight ever. After having my son and breastfeeding him for 8 months, my metabolism never re-adjusted to the amount of food I was eating. So I was constantly hungry, but not burning anything off. The saddest...

All I want for Christmas

Image
Christmas Wish list I just finished putting together the Christmas list for my family. We have grown up a lot in the last 5 years and have made our list about things that we can / will use; which prevents wasting money for all of us and hoarding for others. Last year somebody even asked for a bottle of Ketchup, it was a joke but it ended up being used. In other years I have asked for things that I don’t use. For some reason that I don’t understand now, I asked for a deep fryer and a food processor one year. I lost the fryer on my divorce, but I’m glad to not have the fryer anymore. Other years I asked for work out leggings and I got an awesome pair of bright pink capris leggings. A color I would have never bought for myself, but that I love. Last year I didn’t ask for many things, I asked for a DVD/CD combo of my favorite Artist, Enrique Bunbury and a few movies. I was fortunate to get a pair of super awesome Adidas Hiking sneakers, an iPad mini and socks. Those sneakers wer...
