Philly Rock 'n' Roll Half 2017 Recap

Image
Race Details Cost : $56 + processing. I registered in National Running day, with the special discount. Goodies : Woman's tech cut shirt, and free samples + snacks and beverages post race. Temperatures : 70 F (21.11 C)  with 89% humidity, overcast. What I wore: shorts, 2 sport bras, hat and socks. The Expo My son loves going to Race expos, he knows there will be free candy for kids, and other free items. Right after we picked up Roger's and my bib, he got a free head wrap, and a drawstring bag. Then my sister and him played a game at the Toyota booth, and got some type of charging device. He also got lollypops and temporary tattoos.   The Morning of The Race I'll confess that one of my least favorite things about doing this half marathon, is driving to Philadelphia before the sun is up on a Sunday morning. But up we went. One of the perks of such a drive, is that I get to spend time with my sister, and we got all caught up on family gossip. It's not really go...

Delaware Running Festival - Half Marathon 2017

Before I get on the details of the race, I dedicated this race to Dawn , a woman from another agency my office worked with. She passed away last week, after a battle with Cancer. I met Dawn in 2006, when she came to audit my files for another program, although we made mistakes and our files were not always perfect, Dawn was always kind and worked with us on corrections. Dawn, your bright smile and kind spirit will be very much missed here. Race Details Cost: $95 ( I registered late) Goodies: long sleeve woman's cut tech shirt, running hat, post race beer, snacks and medal. Weather Conditions : Sunny start of the race 45F (7.22 C), 55F ( 12.77) at the end of the race.   I do not remember how I found this race... but knew that a Mother's day race sounded like something awesome to do. My sister agreed to watch my son, and I signed up. The registration process was super simple and was done on my phone, while in line for coffee<- True Story.   B...

Rock 'n' Roll DC Half Marathon Recap

Image
I had not planned to run R'nR DC this year again, but last summer, Rock 'n' Roll offered a switch for those who would not make it to Virginia Beach. I took the transferred and wiped the expectations and tears off. In December, RnR had a sale and I got Roger a registration for the half marathon as well.   Race Details Cost : $50 (purchased during the Running day sale, originally for Virginia, then transferred to DC) Goodies: Plastic Drawstring bag, samples, coupons, woman's cut tech shirt. Water and Gatorade at the finish line. Plus course entertainment. Weather: 27, with windchills and real feel of 17-22. Sunny. Last year when I did R'n'R DC, I did it in 1:58:59, and I thought it was a realistic goal to try and beat that time this year. The course is *relatively* flat, with a major hill at mile 6, and small rolling hills after. But not pancake flat that it would hurt. A week before, the weather the forecast kept changing. At some point, it was showing p...

Run Into The New Year 5K - Race Recap

Image
Whenever we have the urgent desire to go somewhere for a trip, the first thing I do after booking the hotel, is to look up races around the area. Roger hates that I do this, and tells me we are traveling to relax, and I tell him that is how I relax, doing races and running. He sometimes decides to give up the fighting and just join me on the race. Racing in Rehoboth has been my goal since last year, so I agreed to spending the weekend there, if we could do the 5K. Race Details Fee: $25, registered that day. Goodies : blue, tech, woman's cut shirt. Bagels, pastries and water after the race. Time and weather: at 12:00 pm, windy, sunny, around 45. We registered 1 hour before the race, and walked around the shops looking for coffee and a bagel. I was hungry at 11, because breakfast had been at 8:30 am. We lined up at the start line at 11:50, but the race didn't get started until 12:25. There was no indication for the first 10 minutes for the delay, just a bunch ...
