My 100 Book Challenge

Back in 2014 My sister sent me this list she found of the Amazon's 100 Books to Read In  A Lifetime. I was reading a lot at the time, and she suggested I did this as a challenge.

I'm reviewing what books are done, not to brag... only to remember for myself.

2016 has been my slowest on this book challenge, because most of the books left have not been available at the library, and others are just always out. I am currently working through the following books

A Catcher In The Rye
The Stranger
Dune

While reading this books, I have found some really amazing books that became favorites, they are the ones marked with stars *. Some led me to series that I would have never picked up before. Others took me a few tries to get into, or to understand... Yes, I'm looking at you Brief History of Time, Life After Life, Dune, Moneyball...

The one that I was not into, but loved the movie was The Lord Of The Rings, maybe it's because it has been a long time since I saw the movie. But I had a hard time keeping track of the names. I also started Lolita, but it was creepy, but I will finish it!

Of the books that are left, I'm very intimidated by The Power Broker... it's 1332 pages. But I don't want to make it the last book I read.

I have no timeframe in mind to complete this goal, at the beginning I was only looking for good books.

What books from this list have you read?
What books have you been curios about picking up?
Have you ever done a book challenge?

  1. I once was really into Danielle Steel books and kept a list of the ones I read because I couldn't remember. Thank goodeness for modern technology and Pinterest. Now I try to "Pin" the books I read and then I can always see a description of it if I can't remember it. This comes in handy if you are like me and tend to read lots of books by the same author!

    1. The same thing happened to me with the Lisa Scottoline Books!! I read a lot of her books, but can't remember their tittles! Do you use Goodreads? I've started keeping track there.

  2. I read a ton of books--I'll have to peruse this list and see what I've read. And who made this list anyways? :p

I'm on Goodreads! Let's link up!

  3. Ooooh - I am always looking for new book recommendations so I'll have to start working through this list, too! I've only read 7 of them so far!

One I've been meaning to read is the Diary of Anne Frank. I went to Israel last fall and visited Yad Vashem (a Holocaust memorial museum) in Jerusalem. I'd learned about the Holocaust as a child, but the severity of what happened didn't resonate at that age. As an adult, it REALLY hit me, you know? So now I really want to read Anne's story.

    1. There are excellent books in this list Emily!

I was very captivated by the Diary of Ann Frank, I had not read it before.

The list has a lot of WWII books, more than any other subject.

  4. I am impressed!!!!!!!!!!! This is a lot of books!!!! I am not including the ones I "read" in HS English... which means I barely remember them because I probably skimmed them!

Are You The God? It's Me, Margaret
    Charlotte's Web
    Gone Girl
    Goodnight Moon
    Me Talk Pretty One Day
    The Catcher In The Rye
    The Giver
    The Very Hungry Caterpillar
    Where the Sidewalk Ends
    Where the Wild Things Are

That's not very many at all and most of them are children's books!

I have read Catcher in the Rye many, many times and it is one of my FAVORITE books. I'd love to hear what you think of it!

    Gone Girl had be CAPTIVATED.

Just read The Giver about a year ago and oh my word, I was just floored. I love it.

I don't really do book lists because I just can't read something if I don't like it and I am kind of a picky reader. I will get a book from the library, read a chapter, and quit because I can tell I don't like the writing style!

    1. Thank you Megan! I swear I'm not bragging, but after not reading a lot of this books in HS, I wanted to catch up.

I am about half way through Catcher In The Rye... i'll let you know what I think.

I really enjoyed Gone Girl, read it twice! I hate that people call the main character a "crazy bitch". Was she controlling? Yes, was she conniving? Yes, was she a bit crazy? Yes, but not a crazy "bitch".

Did you read any of the other books in the Giver Series?

I picked up the list because it exposed me to other books that I would have never picked up. And I found some really amazing books! I highly recommend Middlesex, Cutting For Stone, Born To Run, Kitchen Confidential... and so many more. I could talk about all this books for a long time!

    3. I did not read any other books in The Giver series. I did watch the movie, though! I am trying to get Paul to read the book. I have to disagree, that girl in Gone Girl was a BIIIIIIITCH. lol.

Thanks for those recs, I will check them out next time I am at Frederickson!

I love true crime books. I like Mary Higgins Clark for a mindless read. Alafair Burke. I loved Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson back in the day. I read Christopher Pike as a young adult and every couple years reread all of his books. :) True crime is the best or books about the criminal justice system.

My dream is to be on a jury but I don't think it will ever happen! The defense NOR the prosecution would want me!!! Although that should negate things and make me equal to every player!

    4. Well, in my mind anybody who is framing Ben Affleck for a fake murder is in their right mind... I don't like Ben Affleck.

You have never been called for Jury Duty? My sister and I both have been called twice, but dismissed before we even showed up for seletion.
