August Runfessions

Hello, how are you today? Did you Runfess Yet? I'm a little late, but here it goes.

Linking up with Marcia For August Runfessions, thank you Marcia for hosting!

I runfess that I do not feel ready for this Half Marathon in Virginia Beach. I signed up because it was a weekend that my son would be with his father for the holiday, and those weekends are huge stressors in my life. I knew that we would end up at the beach that weekend, and Virginia sounded perfect. That was back in June, and 3 months later, I'm nervous and scared. I don't know why, I have run as much as I did when training for the marathon. Maybe my mind is louder than my training.

I have thought and thought so many times about Runfessing this, but if not here... then where? My ex-husband has started running, and I runfess that I'm worried he is doing the Hershey Half Marathon. The thought of it makes my stomach hurt and makes me want to throw up. I know running was not a sport created specifically and only for me, but it just irritates me. And The Hershey Half was my first Half marathon and I enjoyed it a lot last year. I don't want to be worried or thinking the entire race that he might be running behind me, or next to me... (notice that the possibility of him being ahead of me is not even a thought that crosses my mind) Which I guess means I should train to run it faster, just to be safe. I'm just being paranoid.

I runfess that I'm addicted to Nuun. I drink it after long runs, I drink it at work, instead of soda.... There is one tube of Nuun All Day in my desk, and two of Nuun Active at home. I feel Nuun has taken over where Soda was for me before.... but I guess it could be worse.

Any tips for Virginia Beach? It's supposed to be hot.
Should I cut it out with my running jealousy?
What is your favorite Nuun flavor?

  1. For the last two years I did RnR VA Beach and each time I was injured. I walked most of it and it was so stinking hot that first year. While parts will be hot and others will be boring (and sometimes both) it's an easy course. And of course after it's all done you can sit on the beach and relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend. :)

  2. I can understand how you're feeling about RnRVA - but you are an experienced runner, and you know how to handle the challenges. You've got this under control. And remember that everyone gets the same finisher's medal! I also can understand the jealousy. I've got friends who picked up running way after I did, but who are already so much faster than me. Some people just have better running genes than others, and there's nothing we can do about it other than control our own training, right? I know it's much easier said than done to run our own race - but it's all we can do!

"Some people just have better running genes"<-this is so true!!

  3. I've done RnR VA Beach several times and it is always HOT!!! Bring your own water and make sure you grab a sponge when they hand them out. I've see too many people go down during this race. This is not a race to push yourself!

I didn't realize you were doing the Hershey half. I've been wanting to do that race but read a horrible review of all the hills. I am going to start out small and do the 10k next spring and see how that goes.

    1. Thank you Meranda! I'm looking at your notes and will review them again on Saturday! Thank you so much for your advice!!

I do not plan on pushing, thanks for the reminder!

The Hershey half IS hilly, but it's also a very enjoyable race. There is spectator for most the race, and everybody is very supportive all along the course. There is bands and music through most of the course as well, and a lot of vendors are out handing free things to runners. It really is a great experience.

Hershey 10K is also great, I'm likely doing it too, let's keep in touch and maybe we can run it together.

  4. I have the very same thoughts about throwing up when I think of my ex too. One thing I don't have to worry about is seeing him running!
Hey there are fall worse things to be addicted to than Nuun right? Fuel that jealousy and go to VB and kick some Ex A$$ :) Ooops did I say that?

  5. I say cut the running jealousy ONLY because it will make you feel better and he should NOT have that power over you! You are ANA. His running endeavors should not concern you. (I know, easy for me to say as an objective observer BUT I want to pump you up so you don't give him a second thought!!)

Okay you just inspired me to stop drinking diet soda and drink my Nuun instead. Just as soon as these five 12 packs we just bought are gone... Shouldn't be too long. ;)

If you ever want to go for a run when you have a free weekend and want to get your mind off things, hit me up! Last minute is fine too. Having plans makes me anxious!

    1. "His running endeavors should not concern you." <- thank you!! I needed to hear that! You are right, I'm running for my own health and will let go of whatever hang ups I have!

Enjoy the last 12 diet sodas! and Welcome to the Nuun train! We meet whenever the craving for sugar kicks in!

Sounds excellent! I'll be contacting you for sure! Thanks!

  6. I'm excited for you and VB! Boo for the heat though. Just take it easy and be mindful of your heart rate. I think I'd feel weird as well if an ex was running the same race as me. I started drinking more Nuun when I was swimming regularly. Sort of as a treat. You're rightL there are worse things! Thanks for linking!
