Preparing to Run DC

Good morning Star Shine! The Earth Says Hello! First off, I have to admit that I love Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, the Johnny Depp version, no shame, I didn't grow up in this country and I enjoy quirky characters !

We are off to DC for our Run-cation! Well, not really vacation at all, since it's only the weekend, but the intent is all there. Last year at this time, I was struggling to run 5 miles without feeling like my legs would fall off, and tomorrow I will be running my second half marathon! I'm excited, nervous and scared!

I was telling a fellow runner last night at the Fleet Feet Running group, that I really needed to sit down and review all plans for DC, like where we are going to park, how we are going to get to the start line, and how we are going to get back to the car. I have been to DC several times, and have walked around the monuments with family and friends. Most notably, my son and I walked from our hotel, close to the Capitol, to the Air and Space Museum, the Natural History museum and back to the hotel. About 2-3 miles and the last 1 mile I was carrying him. Looking back, I don't know what came over me to do this alone, but divorce will give you that confidence.

Most of my races have been local, and driving there, and parking within 1 or 2 miles was always an option. But not for Rock and Roll Half! So I have decided to follow the suggestion from the DC R'n'R website and use the train, which looks pretty easy... but less stressful than NYC!

The plan is to use the DC Metro the Entire weekend, and explore different parts of DC we have not seen before. We hope to park close to Union Station and move from and to there. We also hope to walk around after and see some of the monuments. One of my all time favorite monument is the Lincoln Monument.

I'm excited to run in DC and to complete my second Half Marathon! This is my last post before the R&R DC, but if you are interested in following the updates, you can follow me on Instagram at @lusoto ... where I mostly post pictures of food!

I hope everybody has an awesome race weekend!

    1. It was a great race! Except for the super steep hill at mile 6... I thought I was ready for it, and I was almost crawling it at the end!

I'm still in complete awe that you run the race, so close after giving birth! I think when I gave birth, all I wanted to do was eat pizza and sleep! You are an inspiration!
