Weekly Wrap 7.30.17

Hello! how are you? how was your week ? Mine was full of work and adventure.

Workouts
Monday: 8 miles easy
Thursday: 6 miles tempo(ish)
Friday: 2 miles with sprints and weights
Saturday : 4 easy miles and 3 mile hike
Sunday : 11 mile long run easy

I'm  linking up with Deborah, Holly and Tricia this week for the Weekly Wrap.

Our week started with a long run, because we missed it the day before, we were supposed to do 11, but, we disagreed with 1. where we were running, 2. what time we were stating and 3. the route for the run. Roger wanted to go to Hershey, but after work, I wasn't in the mood to drive to Hershey. And by the time we agreed on what time we were starting, it was getting too late. We ran 8 and called it a success.

One of the Hills in Lemoyne

On Wednesday Roger caught this shot of me and my son reading. Our deal is that he reads for 25 minutes his own book and I read my book too... yup... still trying to finish The Sun Also Rises...

Messy bed, but I'm still bragging about my kids who reads

On Thursday of week 2, I typically run with the Fleet Feet group, but I was really tired after working on audits and meetings at the office, that my body needed a short nap before running. I still enjoyed a run in Camp Hill, and some hills for dinner.

On Saturday after a quick 4 miler and some tacos, we ventured out to a new hike that I have been wanting to check out for a while, Hawk Rock Trail. It's a steep 1mile up, with a beautiful view of the Susquehanna and Juniata River and the town of Duncannon. We also hiked to the other less popular spot, Cove Hill.

Sunday was long run day. We ran at Hershey, and found some damage to the trail from the storms the week before.

Random Story

On Saturday I took my car for an overdue oil change. When we were having lunch, the guy from Jack Williams called to say that the car needed two filters, one for the cabin, one for the engine... I knew that the filter change was needed they had reminded me 3 times already, so I said to go ahead a replace them. When I went to pick up the car, he charged me $31.75. I wasn't thinking and handed him my card, then started thinking that didn't sound correct... the two filters were $19.99 each. So when he asked me to sing the receipt, I said to him "You didn't charge me for the filters, did you not replace them?" and looked at his receipt and realized the didn't add them to the bill. This pesky integrity cost me $40!!

Roger said that I should have just left and not told them, but I couldn't do that. The guys at Jack Williams treat me well. They talk to me like an adult, they listen when I tell them what noise my car is making, without making fun of me; if I walk in and say "I need an oil change done in 30 minutes", they do it in 20, they listen to my rants about my tires and never treat me wrong. I couldn't steal $40 from them.

Currently Reading

Scarlet by Marisa Meyer- Although I just realized this is the #2 book in the series, might have to go back and read the first book.

Also, Roger recently was interviewed by a Higher Education journal. I promised him I would post his article here.  If you are interested in reading about Higher Education in Germany, check this out!

How was your week?

When was the last time you got your car an oil change?

Do you take naps during the day?

Has anybody read The Lunar Chronicles?

Comments

  1. I seldom take naps. I'm up late enough as it is...if I took a slumber during the day, I'd probably never go to bed LOL

    1. I agree Kimberly! If I napped more often, I would be up all night!

  2. That's such a cute photo of you and your son reading together :) And how cool that Roger was interviewed for that article! That makes sense that you told the guy at the car place about the mistake. When you find a good person to help with your car you've got to do what you can to keep that relationship!

You are right! a good mechanic doesn't come along often!

  3. Nice post! I rarely take naps. I feel that they kind of mess up my whole sleep schedule.

Hope you have a great start to your week!

  5. I fell asleep a few times on the couch yesterday. I was SO TIRED. I rarely nap though so this was exceptional. Good for you for being honest about the filter. It's hard to do the right thing, especially when we know we won't get props for it. But I'm giving you props right now! You're amazing!

  7. I love naps and take one with Lola (my cat) everyday. I think you did the right thing by telling the shop about the filters. Once I went to Target and the cashier didn't charge me for an Olay face cream (and those are expensive) but I felt guilty about it and went to Guest Services. The manager gave me another item for free and charged me for the face cream. I could have left but didn't feel right about it.

    1. That is so nice of Target to give you an extra free item!! It just doesn't feel right to leave with something that doesn't belong to one!

  8. I like your new blog layout!

You and your son reading.... LOVE IT. I wish all parents did that!

I go to Jiffy Lube and they treat me like an adult too! They never talk down to me. I always leave them really good reviews.

    1. Thank you!! I got tired of the old layout and just changed it up! It feels cleaner!

Roger goes to Jiffy lube too, he likes it there too!

I want my son to love reading as much as I do, so I have to set the example.

  9. You and your son reading side by side is a precious picture! Someday I hope to do that when my kids can read on their own :) Way to go on being a person of integrity - paying the $40 isn't fun but it's worth it to know you did the right thing. My husband does all of our vehicle maintenance but it's great you've found a place where they do great work and quickly too!
