Weekly Wrap 1.22.17

Hello there! how are you ? How was your week? Work has been busy and life has been busy too.

I'm  linking up with Holly and Tricia this week.

Workouts
Tuesday: Cardio Funk class x2
Wednesday: 3 easy miles with sprints at the end, + weights
Thursday: 2.5 miles of intervals + Weights
Friday: 7 miles easy
Sunday: 5 miles

Last Tuesday my legs were feeling really tired, so I didn't plan to run. The cardio Funk instructor was doing two classes, back to back, so I ended up staying for that instead of running on the treadmill. (each class is easily worth 3 slow miles)

Ouch! That hurt!
Can I just say intervals are really hard and exhausting? ok, that is out of the way now... Good thing I made tacos to recover from that.

Very Much Loving !
Friday I had an appointment with US Immigration and Naturalization Services, for my fingerprints. I was going to drag this out and make a big announcement, but I decided that was overly dramatic. So here it is, I am becoming a citizen of the United States. My current status is a Legal Resident, but after much consideration about fees, and my life, I made the choice to apply to become a citizen. The next step in the process will be to have an interview and a civics test with US Immigration and Naturalization, probably in the next 6 months. In the mean time, I'll be studying the 100 questions, and hoping they will not ask me who is President.

Friday I took a break from all social media, and I want to say to all of you, I'm sorry for not reading your blogs, or liking your post that day. I needed a small break from the inauguration stuff. I will go back and catch up.

Family fun
Saturday was a restful day, I wen to see my mom for her Birthday. We went to get Crepes, and we ended up playing dress up and dancing in the living room.  Well, it was mostly me dancing and dressing up, but it was still a lot of fun. We even did a recreation of Dirty Dancing I've Had The Time Of My Life, with the lifting of the Baby and all!

It was also very inspiring to see all the Women Marchers! What an amazing group of people!

Currently Reading
Hitler's Furies By Wendy Lower. It has been very interesting to read about how women helped the Nazis during WWII, and  how they were helping a cause that was also against them. What has struck me the most so far, is how citizens of Germany were encouraged to allow Hitler to "unify them" and encouraged to "give him a chance". It sounded eerily familiar.

How much do intervals hurt for you?
What do you put inside your Crepe? I'm either Nutella or strawberries and cream.
Do you play dress up with your family?
Could you pass the USA Citizenship test? Quickly, without looking on Google, who is your State Representative, and your Senator?

  1. I really don't think I could pass the citizenship test without studying, which makes me embarrassed. Off to see if I can find an online version to test myself...

Congrats on starting the citizenship process, I'm not entirely sure what will be different for you as a result, though there must be something to make it worth it, I hope the process is as smooth as possible.

I would go HARD on a Nutella crepe right now, or really any crepe.

    1. I will now be able to 1. vote, 2. hold a federal job, 3. Serve on a jury, 4. Run for office, 5. Not be deported in case of a crime... and probably more.

      Nutella crepes are LIFE!!

Let me know how you would do in a citizenship test!

  2. Also - just saw you have the Pittsburgh Great Race listed for 2017 races. Are you coming to Pittsburgh!? I know it's not until September, but let's grab coffee, or breakfast or something!

  3. Congrats on deciding to become a citizen!! I think I could pass a citizen test but I'm not sure I'd have to see the questions! Cardiovascular funk sounds like a lot of fun! I don't blame you for taking a break on friday... I should have!

    1. Thank you! The questions are not very difficult, I don't think... I'm going to post about the questions I had trouble with.

  4. Yay on taking the steps to become a citizen. I honestly don't know if I would be able to pass the test which is a shame. I wonder if they ask stuff that we should have learned in high school social studies class. Please keep us updated on your studying as now you have me curious as to what type of questions they ask.
Oh, and you totally get a pass my friend for not being on social media. I do check out blogs but try to stay off Facebook ! Have a good week!

    1. Yes, a lot of the questions are social studies lessons, and about elected officials. I am always surprised when people don't know who the Governor is, or any other elected official.

I will do a post on some of the questions I struggled with, hoping that will help me remember them.

thank you! More than anything, I didn't want to see pictures of the inauguration, but it seems I mostly follow runners on instagram.

  5. Congrats on the citizenship although I wish you were among us up here instead! I'm not blogging about the president. You're safe on my blog, although not if you get squeamish about poo. Can't escape poo.

    1. Thanks Suzy! I know! I sometimes wish that I could have moved, but there are lots of things tying me to the USA. I will come visit when I become a citizen!

Thank you! I'm not squeamish about poo, I have a boy, and he enjoys talking lots about poo and farts.

    1. Thank you Wendy! I know some answers, only because I make it a point to learn them, and I'm sure most of you will know the answers too!

  7. Yay, congrats on beginning the naturalization process! I still remember the day I became a citizen (almost 20 years ago at this point) and it's definitely a moving day. Good luck! Also, those crepes look amazing :)

  8. That's wonderful about the citizenship. I'm sure you will know more about civics then me by the time you took the test. I'd love to hear all about the process.

  9. Congrats on your decision to become a citizen!!! That's really exciting!! I hope you'll keep us updated about the process!!

The parallels to Nazi Germany and the US today are very, very eerie. I hate that so many people don't want to see the similarities. The propaganda. The turns of phrase. The "with us or against us" attitudes...It's all very scary and familiar.

  10. I am so very glad to see your becoming a US Citizen. So much negativity about immigrants has really been on the fore front but there is a process and I'm so glad you decided to take the steps to do this!

  11. I probably could not pass the test. But, I do know who our governor is since he's involved in a huge scandal. (LOL-sadly) I'm sure you will have no problems! I'm glad you were able to spend time with your Mom for her birthday. Those crepes look delicious. Thanks for linking, Ana!
