Memorial Day 5K Recap

I know that today is Running Day, but I have the same philosophy for Running day as I do for all other days.... Everyday is Running Day ! Just like everyday can be Taco day, and Donut day... mmm I'm hungry for donuts now.

I have wanted to do the Camp Hill Memorial Day 5K since 2013, but timing just didn't work out until this year. We were back from the Beach by Sunday, and I knew that this was the year.

I woke up a little late, not sure why, but laid in bed for longer than I needed to. The race was to start at 8:00, in Camp Hill, which is a 10 minute drive from where I live. I left at 7:30, cutting it real short to registration.

Race Details
Price- $25 - registered day of the race
Chipped timed
Goodies- There were Bananas and water at the start line.
No shirt.

The race started at the Methodist Church, which was also the start line for the Library Loop. I arrived, registered and went back to my car to eat some of my greek yogurt. 7 minutes before the race, I grabbed a banana and headed to the start line. This is the smallest meal I've had before a race, normally I have a bagel and coffee.

The race started exactly at 8:00, I was very familiar with the route, as I've ran it a few times before, and it's where I do most of my training runs.

Around mile 1, I felt really tired and hungry. But told myself to keep pushing and moving along. I didn't think that I was going very fast, the volunteers who were reading times out at mile 1 said my first mile was 7:47. I had wanted to do negative splits, but felt really tired. It was hot, and humid, all of the sudden I felt really thirsty. I kept pushing, knowing that we were almost done.

At the water stop, I grabbed a cup of water and tried to take a sip, but my body didn't want it. So I swished and spit it out, then dumped the rest on my head.

We turned the corner by the end of the route and I saw the finish line. I tried to sprint, but my body was done.

I crossed the finish line at 24.49. My best time for this route! Official time was 24.45, 5th on my age group.

My glasses were all fogged up after the race, and I'm glad that didn't happen during the race, like it did in the winter for long runs. I really need to look into prescription sunglasses.

Very sweaty at the finish line.
I was alone, so this was my post-race picture selfie... I grabbed a water, and headed to Panera for some bagels and coffee.

I really enjoyed the race, even though it was in a location I can normally run for free, I enjoy the "race" feeling, and the accomplishment after the race is done.

We went hiking after the race, more on that tomorrow.

  1. Congrats on that speedy finish time! I haven't run a 5k in a long time--I'd like to do one just to see how I could push it!

  2. Great job! That's the thing with local races, I feel I can run the same route for free..haha. I guess that's why I haven't done a lot. This summer will be different though and I hope to do a few just for the sake of being involved I guess!

Hey, for some reason your blog posts have not been showing up in my Bloglovin so I thought you hadn't posted and that's why I hadn't been visiting lately. Sorry!

  4. WOW!!! That's a killer time, especially considering you weren't feeling 100% early on. Huge congratulations on your new PR! I heard it said once that if you can run a 5K below 25 minutes, you've achieved really "legit" runner status - and you just did it!!! =D Happy Running Day everyday!!!

    1. Thank you Megan! Yes, the area by the library is crazy hilly, but the race was on the other side, behind Cornernstone. It's a nice route!
