Goal Review Spring 2016

Aahh! When a New Year starts, it feels like everything is possible, like all change and bad habits of the year before can be left behind and start new... until February rolls around and one realizes that one still loves Quarter Pounders, Coke and Instagram!

Today I'm linking up for The Tuesdays on The Run, hosted by PattyErika, and Marcia, where the subject is Goal Check in.

Races

Planned but skipped
Hershey 10K
Bunny Palooza 10K
Garden Spot Half Marathon

I had to skip all three races. All, because I was sick for two weeks, and recovery took a long time.

Done

Race in DC - R 'n R DC Half

In Progress
Gettysburg Marathon- This Sunday

Registered for
Kennett Run
Bird in Hand Half Marathon

Food

I have only had 1 Quarter Pounder meal since January. I have craved it many times, but have not given in.

We are cooking at home more, about 4-5 times per week, in good weeks 6 times. But now that Baseball has started, it's going to be take out 2 times a week.

Coke is winning the battle. I gave it up for Lent, but didn't make it all the way. I still have it at least once a week. Still a work in progress.

Books

Goal: 85
Read: 20

I'm a little behind on books, because I am not able to hold my attention for longer than 5 minutes. The last book I remember was Lila by Marilynne Robinson, and I couldn't tell you more than it was about a homeless woman who married a pastor.... then I'm pretty sure I fell asleep.

I picked up Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson, because her stories make me laugh and she is really funny! hoping this will get me focused again.

Instagram

I  saw this commentary on Device addiction by Paula Poundstone on Sunday Morning. And it made me realize that not only am I addicted to my phone, but I'm teaching my son to be addicted to an electronic device. My son has a kindle and doesn't know how to be bored.

When I get home, I plug in my phone to charge it, my son is not allowed to watch TV, or use the Kindle.

I found myself "rewarding" myself with looking at Instagram if I was having a bad day, then realized this was just my addiction. This is still a work in progress!

  1. You've made some great progress on your goals! I wish I could read more books...once upon a time, I read a lot. 20 books is awesome! Good luck at Gettysburg!

  2. Rock N Roll DC is on my list! I want to run Hershey Half sometime, but I hear it's hilly, and me and hills aren't friends.

  3. Thank you Sonia! If you need an excellent book, check out Jenny Lawson's book, she is hilarious!

  4. Thank you Tania! Hershey Half is a really awesome race! It is hilly, but if you train properly, the hills should not be a problem. The scariest hill is at mile 12, and even though I trained for months, I walked half of it.

  5. Great job with your goals this year! It's tough to get sick during the racing season...last summer it took me so long to recover from a cold and I really struggled with my races that were a few weeks later.

  11. OMG, Jenny's book is hilarious. I listened to it on Audible and found myself laughing out loud in the car, like a lunatic. Oh. Wait.

  12. Maybe a funny book is just what I need. Not that the book I'm reading right now is bad. It's just not quite drawing me in like I had hoped. So I just stopped reading it. But I haven't started anything else in the meantime. I love to read & devote a lot of time to it. So this really changes up my normal routine.

  13. oh wow, that commentary by Paula Poundstone is EYE OPENING! My sister and I are constantly battling because I always let her 4 year old play on my phone or tablet and she gets really mad at me...looks like she's going to be hearing an apology from me ASAP.

  17. I think you are doing a pretty good job on your goals !

I have the hardest time finishing a book and staying focused. I blame internet and all that zapping... concentrating is so hard now.
