SUYB August 2018

Happy Show Us Your Books Tuesday! Today I'm linking up with Jana and Steph for Show Us Your Books.

This was my slowest month for reading, between training for the Half marathon, traveling and repeat books, I haven't focused on any books.

Ghost by Reynolds

I really enjoyed this book! Between the conversation of running, and the YA elements, I really enjoyed the book. I will be reading with my son, and hope that he will also enjoy it.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling

How many times can one read Harry Potter and still find little treasures? I don't know... this is my 8t.. or 9th round and I'm still finding gems! I put everything aside to listen to Harry Potter, and it was well worth it.

In Conclusion, Don't Worry About It by Lauren Graham

This was a short book, and like a summary of her other book.

Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey

My son wants me to read this series, it's his current favorite series and because he sees me sharing books with Roger and My family, he also wants to participate on sharing his favorites. The book is funny, and I love the Author's backstory... he had ADD and he was told that he would never do anything with his life, because all he did was draw funny cartoons in class, and now he is a children's book best seller!

The Immortalist by Choe Benjamin

Aah!! the concept of this book intrigued me very much, and I loved the story of the gay brother at the start, but I found myself tuning out in the middle. I finished it, because I wanted to know what was going to happen, but it felt like some parts dragged with no real story.

Here is to hoping September will bring more books!

  1. I need to read Lauren Graham's first book still. And I'm glad you liked the Jason Reynolds book. I want to read more by him!

    1. Lauren Grahams first book was really good, and funny... well, technically it's her second book. Her first was a fiction book.

This is my second Jason Reynolds, and I think Ghost is a Series.

    1. The book is good, I will say that it was a very interesting concept, but I wasn't in the mood for it. Check it out and I want to know what your thoughts are.

  5. People are definitely split on The Immortalists, and while I love it, I can totally see your comment about lack of plot / it dragging in spots. I still thought it was great for conversation (we read it for book club), but is always nice in a book.

  7. I loved Simon's story best too from the Immortalists. To be quite honest, I still think about him and Varya (I think - the story immediately following Simon) quite a bit. But I do agree the middle sagged quite a bit but I still really enjoyed the book overall. I don't think you can reread HP too much!

    1. Yes!! Simon was the best! I cried when his part ended, he was so wild and I loved that he cashed his dreams so hard! Varya's story was intense!

  8. I read the first Captain Underpants too. I like to read books with my son and or try to find books that I think he'll like. I just recently finished the HP series with my son last year, a lot of it on audio. He now loves the series as well!

    1. We love Jim Dale as the narrator for Harry Potter! He is just so good and gives lives to each individual character.

Did you read any other books with your son? We are always looks for kids books.
