Friday Five 1.5.18

Happy Friday! How is your day going? How is the weather treating you this week?

I'm Linking up with the Friday five 2.0 ladies at Fairytales and Fitness and Running on Happy .

It has been so cold this week, that's it has been very difficult to think of anything else! But I've had to find motivation to keep moving.

As the year has started, many people have the resolution to lose weight, or to become more active, and here are some things I have always wanted to say to newbies at the gym...

1. I am so proud of you!! I admire anybody who is taking a step to become a healthier person! I believe on you, and wish the best on your new adventure!

2. Please Share! Hello, and welcome! There is many of us that have been going to the gym for a little bit, we have our favorite weights, our favorite Zumba spot, our favorite treadmill... and if you hoard any of those, we will star at you and possibly say mean things under our breath... 90% of the mean comments I have made about gym newbies, were when they were being inconsiderate, and acting like they owned the gym.

3. It gets easier- One of the phrases that I hate most is "It doesn't get easier, You just get stronger" UGh! It does get easier and if you keep working, you will get stronger.

4. Don't argue with a runner, it won't end well! Last year, I was talking to a new person in my life, and we started talking about running. Then she said that she had ran a marathon, I went all "Runner" on her and started asking her all the questions, "which marathon? What was your time? Are you going to run another one?" Then she said "The Color one, in Hershey." ... Uhmmm, what? There is no marathons in Hershey, and there definitely is no color marathon (that I know of ). She meant the Color Run 5K, I tried to politely tell her that was not a marathon, but she started arguing with me the it was. I walked away, but now I have to question if she knows how to count....

5. Stay with it and it will pay off! It takes a long time to see results from exercise, weeks,  months! I started doing Zumba with the goal of losing weight 7 years ago, and I have put on weight since, but I feel so good that the weight means nothing to me. I am capable of so much more now and hope to stay healthy to keep working on my goals.

Stay warm, it is very cold out there!!

What do You want to tell gym newbies?

Has anybody argued with you on the distance of a Marathon?

Comments

  2. Non-runners seem to confuse distances all the time... when I ran my first half-marathon, I emphasized that it's a half, and people still asked me about my marathon experience. LOL
    NOT THE SAME THING!

    1. I know! people don't hear the half part of the "half marathon"! I had that a few years ago, and I felt I had to go run a marathon as soon as possible, to be able to say I was a marathoner!

  3. Oh, it's so hard to restrain the eye rolls when non-runners try to act like they know more about the sport, or training, or "marathons" than the actual runners themselves!

    1. Or the people who read Born To Run, but have never ran anything in their life and now feel they are the experts!! those are the worst ones!

  4. WOW what a relief to actually read a blog post that has POSITIVE things to say with newbies! I haaaaaate when people complain about gyms being crowded in January. It's like, oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you OWNED the gym and no one new was allowed to join!?

    1. We all need to remember we were all newbies at some point! I still remember the Zumba mean girls, who would try to push me off my space, because it was their favorite space! I hated them! I don't mind newbies, I only mind when they surround themselves with all the weights at the gym, but even then I leave them alone.

  5. I like seeing new people in my classes and at the gym! I want to tell them that we are all in this together. I know some people get annoyed when new people are lost or don't know what they are doing, but I hope I give them a vibe that says, Hey, you can ask me anything and I will help you if I can!

  6. I do get annoyed when someone calls a race a marathon and it wasn't even close to it. I mean, any race is a race and it is a job well done but let's not call it a marathon. Big difference!
