Friday Five 10.21.16

Good Morning Sunshine!! Well, there is no sunshine here today, but still good morning! It is so weird to not be on training mode! With the completion of the Hershey Half, we are now in free mode. But still working on some other goals. Here are some things that kept me thinking, laughing and running this week.

I'm joining the inaugural Link up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0.

1. I was very happy with meeting my Hershey Goal of 2:03, but I want to do better. I feel that I didn't really push myself this last training season, I didn't stick to my weights schedule and didn't push my comfort level.

2. I'm going to Happy Potter Festival tomorrow!! I am so excited! I don't even know what to wear!

3. When James Corden took over the Late Late show, I promised myself that I wouldn't watch it, because he replaced my beloved Craig Ferguson, but week after week, he keeps on putting out funny stuff! I saw this video yesterday of him and Tom Cruise.... fun fact, I used to be in love with Tom Cruise.

4. This Article from Allie Burdick- A Runner Shares How She Reached Peace With An Unsupportive Partner. You all know that I run with Roger, and we train for races together. But I barely mention that when I do a race that he hasn't training for/ or doesn't want to do, it most often turns into a fight. A fight that ends up with me saying to him "I don't need you to do this race with me, and I don't want you anywhere near me that day." This article made me feel like she shares and understands my struggle. That's why I love her!

5. I need to find a replacement for my running shoes. I tried new shoes, because I couldn't find Nike Frees for a price I could agree with. But it's time to give up and pay whatever Nike wants for the shoes I want.

What are you looking forward this weekend?
Do you watch the Late Late Show?
What is your favorite Tom Cruise movie?

  1. OMG I cannot wait to hear all about the Harry Potter festival!!! Oh and with the shoes, even before I need them, I look for sales on the shoes I wear and eventually find a good price for them before I have to pay full price cause I have to replace them now.

    1. I am waay too excited for the Harry Potter Festival!

I bought two pairs, and used them up already! I am considering using them until they fall apart. Next time I find my size, I'm buying three pairs!

  3. Harry Potter Festival! I had no idea that was a thing. I'd love to hear about it :) That was an interesting article about a partner that's not supportive of you're running. She had a good point about the freedom at the finish line and thinking outside the box.

    1. It is a thing! Apparently it has been going on for a little while now! they do a bar tour, a quidditch game, and a panel!

It was an awesome article! Allie is an awesome runner and great writer.

  4. I have never seen the late late Show- we DVR Fallon and Kimmel and I watch the highlights when I get home from work. Maybe i need to add it to the roll. lol
I don't do action movies much at all - I hate fighting even fake fighting lol I am a nerd...so I did see Knight and Day with Cameron Diaz and that was a cute one - the fighting wasn't too graphic.
Your half time is awesome! Enjoy it...I get it though, i am feeling that way right now, I am thinking about all the things I could have done better this training cycle. especially after reading about Holly's cross training!

    1. I was never a big fan of the late shows, but a few years ago I was in Love with Craig Ferguson and his show. I was very sad when he decided to leave. But I kept hearing about the clips from James Corden, and he is pretty funny!

I gave my sister that movie years ago! she liked it!

Tom Cruise has other non fighty movies, but my favorite of his is the Mission Impossible series.

Thank you! Holly kicked butt!! I really think I could have added more yoga and more speed, but I'm just looking to the future and getting stronger.

    1. I love Allie!! hers was one of the first blogs I started reading and I find myself looking forward to her post. When she was in Hershey, I was so tempted to go stalk her... but decided against ending up in jail.

  6. My husband does not run but he is supportive. Wait, he did do one 5K with me one time at Disney and it didn't kill him..lol. I do bet that article is interesting though.

  7. My grandmother's favorite movie was Top Gun, so I was inaugurated to Tom early (age 5). And we had the soundtrack on cassette and just about always on in the car. #dangerzone

  9. I don't understand why Allie got so much hate from that post. My husband has a love-hate relationship with my running and we've made it work. I think I need to write about on my blog. Sole sisters need to stick together.

    1. Haters will hate!! I say that something must have really struck a nerve somewhere. But I really appreciate her honesty!

I say you write about it, I feel we all should, to show our support.

  10. I loved that article from Allie, I feel like I could really relate to it-in fact, my husband has a patch on his backpack that says "I hate racing." Also, that medal is amazing--congrats! :)

  11. I've never watched the Late Late Show. Usually I have a tough enough time just staying up late enough to watch the Tonight Show, let alone anything afterwards! Maybe I'll DVR a few episodes to watch. =)

It's always a bummer when your favorite shoes go up in price. =( I've seen it happen with all of my faves over the past few years. These days, I never buy the newest models. I always buy the prior-year versions when they go on sale - and what a difference it makes on the price!

    1. I don't stay up late to watch any of the late shows, my body couldn't handle it. But I watch the re-runs of clips on Youtube.

I get the old models, but the store hasn't had any on my size and once I got picky about the color... I should have bought whatever orange monstrosity they had and I would have at least one extra pair. Thanks Emily!
