Friday Five - Selena Forever

Image
Happy Friday! how is your day going? We are currently wrapping up a week of Spring Break, and trying to find a warm spot on the sun. My week has been stressful and full of work, and my time was used on cathing up on everything... work, laundry, work, dishes... I didn't find time to write anything. Anyway, this weekend as in many other years before, We will be remembering Selena. Back in 1993 I was obsessed with Selena, with her songs, what she wore, how she danced. Sadly, in 1995 she was murdered. This of course, cemented her legacy as the Mexican American Icon for many in the Latin@ generations. So today, in Friday Five Format, I give you my 5 favorite Selena songs. I just want it to be know, that Selena is my icon, my role model and who I want to be when I really grow up... any day now! No Debes Jugar - This song is super catchy, and if you were not paying attention, one would think this is just a catchy song to dance to, but no. This song is a demand, and a "stop ac

Week In Review - Snowed in and Spring

Image
Spring has finally arrived, but in PA that doesn't guarantee warm weather and blooming flowers, it just means snow will melt faster when it comes. Workouts Monday - 5 miles Thursday - Zumba and 1 mile walk Friday - 7 miles ( 2 easy, 2 miles of intervals and 3 just random whatever my legs felt) and weights.  Saturday - 8 miles tempo On Monday , before going for my run, I went to the library to pick up a book. There is 4 books in my nightstand that I am currently working through, but my brain is not ready to fully commit to them, maybe because my brain knows I have all the time with them.  The run was slow, but it felt good!  On Wednesday school and my office closed because of the snowstorm. It was a really nice break! I did some work I brought home, we watched Doctor Who, and we went to play on the snow. My only work out that day was shoveling my car out and clearing off the snow from my car.  That is my son and Roger at the Botton of the hill  Thursday

Friday Five - Welcome to Spring!

Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine has been really busy, I am so happy it's Friday! I'm Linking up with the Friday five 2.0 ladies at  Fairytales and Fitness  and  Running on Happy  .   I'm just going to tell you 5 random things about this week. 1. The Snow - We had a surprise snow storm on the first day of spring! I know many around here were not fans of the snow, but personally I loved it! My son had off from school, my office closed and we enjoyed sleeping in.       2. Sledding - I had never gone sledding in my life! It sounded and looked terrifying, but the hill we were doing looked pretty steep and I wanted to test it before I sent my son down on it. It was hilarious! I fell out of the made up sled, and rolled right back in and kept going. I couldn't stop laughing.   3. This Peanut Butter chocolate crumb cake!! When I was in High School, our piano teacher used to make us a peanut butter chocolate crumb cake after our piano recitals.

Rock and Roll DC Half Marathon 2018

Race Details Cost : $60 (Registered during National Running Day Sale) Goodies : Woman's cut Brooks tech shirt, plastic drawstring bag, coupons, samples, snacks and water at the finish line. Weather: 34 degrees F ( 1.11 C), 10 mph winds in some parts, sunny. What I wore : lined leggings, lined long sleeve shirt, running hat, and throwaway windbreaker. Roger and I have ran this race for the last two years. This is an excellent race to set a goal for a PR, because the first half of the course is mostly flat, there is a steep hill at mile 6, and after that is gentle rolling hills (Please note that I live in PA, my definition of "gentle rolling hills" is biased). This is a Rock 'n' Roll event, and of all the races I do, this is the one with the BEST cheering crowds through most of the race, and also excellent course support. This race takes runners through beautiful sections of Washington, runners get to see The White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln M

Week in Review - The Green Week

Another busy week gone, and another week coming. Lots of things happening this week, and little time.  Workouts Tuesday - 3 easy miles Wednesday - 3 mile walk  Friday - 5 windy frozen miles  This week was supposed to have more miles run, but my brain got on the way... more on that later.  This Tuesday we had our first sunny run! I love when we finally get more daylight hours on the day, but it also messes up my sleeping schedule.  The weather this week has also been messing with me, it has been so cold!! Almost like biting cold! I don't like it. I have figured out that this winter my tolerance for cold was not very high.  On Friday afternoon, my son and I got to go to the family school dance! It was really cool! I put on a dress, he put on a clean shirt and he hang out with his friends. I only missed out on the dancing, but i know that he had fun with his friends and in my book that made it all worth it.  On Saturday We visited Chestnut Hill Pa. Roger and

Happy Tuesday!! It's my favorite time of the month, time to talk about the books from last month!   Today I'm linking up with  Jana  and  Steph  for Show Us Your Books. Identical Ellen Hopkins This is the most disturbing book I have ever read! Identical is about identical twin sisters. After a tragic accident their father starts sexually abusing one of them, Kaeligh, while the other Raeanne is in a self destructive path to deal with the pain of not getting attention from her father. But they have to unite to help each other out of their nightmares. The twists at the end of the book!! I almost gave up the book, because the very graphic descriptions of the sexual abuse were making me very uncomfortable. But I had to finish it, because I needed to know how she was going to get help. The end revealed two different twist, one that I figured out a quarter of the way into the book, and the second I figured out half way through the book. The end of the book wra

Happy Sunday! How was your week ? Mine was awesome!! Workouts  Monday - 3 tempo miles + light weights Wednesday - 3 unplanned miles and weights Thursday - 4 miles Saturday - Rock 'n' Roll DC Half Marathon On Monday , after looking at my runs from last year prior to the RnR Half, I was feeling a little slow. So I ran this 3 miles faster than I should. I was trying to overcompensate, and  paid for it the next day. I was really sore! On Tuesday , We were scheduled to get 2-4 inches of snow, and our office closed on Tuesday night. This NEVER happens! Most times, they wait to close until 5 am the day of. So, Wednesday morning, I woke up thinking that my son's school will have at least a two hour delay, but when I looked outside there was no snow in sight. My son had school, but my office closed. I ran 3 unplanned miles, and some weights. I also did a few loads of laundry and we went for lunch. It turned out to be a really nice day, and a productive day.

Friday Five 2.0- Women

Image
Happy Friday! How is your day going? I'm Linking up with the Friday five 2.0 ladies at  Fairytales and Fitness  and  Running on Happy  .  I was inspired yesterday by International Women's day and all the post of amazing women everywhere, and today I want to talk about women, We are just too awesome to contain in one day alone! My Mom - The Number one woman in my life is My Mom. She raised me to be a strong and independent woman, who valued education, hard work and family. And after so many years of being on my own, I am always ready to admit: Mom, You were right about everything. Sisters - My sisters have been with me through everything. They are only ones who understand what our lives have been like... from growing up in Mexico, to moving to the USA, to learning English and going to college. I can count on them for anything, especially on them watching my son for me to go to races or concerts. Women Runners - I have had the amazing luck to get to meet

Watching Coco

Image
When Blackpanther came out, I was really excited to go see it, and I told my son all about the importance of the movie and why we were going to see it. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't do the same for Coco. I knew Coco was a story based on Dia De Los Muertos, with collaborations and contributions from respected Mexican -Americans, but Mexicans get so terribly represented on movies, that I have stared to feel ambivalent about Mexican characters on movies or TV.  Most of the time, Mexicans on movies are loud, they dance flamenco (not Mexican music), they are "spicy", and they go around yelling Ole.... just so we are clear, in Mexico we never yell Ole, that's also a Spanish thing. Also, please note that when I say Spanish, I mean from Spain.  Anyway, we finally did watch Coco this past weekend, and let me tell you.... it was amazing!! It was so much more than I was expecting and I'm still crying about the end of the movie.  First off, the town at

Week In Review - The One with the Soreness

Image
Happy Monday! How are you today? The week started out mellow and sore. Workouts Tuesday- 2 mile walk Wednesday - 3 mile and weights Friday- 6 miles (2 easy, 4 tempo-ish) and light weights I woke up really sore from Squirrely Tail Half, my ankles were very sore, and for some reason the muscles around my elbows were sore too. I haven't been sore for a half marathon, since my second half! But this one was a lot of extra work. On Tuesday I wanted to go for a run, but my ankles were still sore. So we took a short walk instead. Wednesday , I finally went for a run and it felt good! It helped that the weather was perfect. My body has been ready for Spring Forward since November! We came home and did some weights and lots of stretching. On Friday I did my 6 mile run on the treadmill.  My body was not ready to deal with heavy winds. This was supposed to be a tempo run, but I find it really hard to run tempo on the treadmill. On Saturday we went to Lititz PA. We rea
