Hiking Summer 2015 - Part 2

Image
If I haven't said it before, dear random strangers, I will say it again, Pennsylvania is a beautiful state for parks. This year we had the pleasure of visiting more beautiful parks, hiking areas and this was our experiences with them. Swatara State Park We made it out to Swatara State Park for the 4th of July weekend, and accidentally hiked 8 miles. We picked this park because we wanted to do a section of the Appalachian Trail. Roger and I didn't talk about how long we would hike. We ended up parking in the middle of the park, because we missed the official entrance to the park, the one with bathrooms. When we got to the unofficial parking lot and saw that the bathroom was in the other side of the park, we had no other option but to hike there. The trail was a mix of pebble rock wide trails and part of an abandoned road. We found many people there on their bikes, well more people on their bikes than hiking. The park was beautiful, the abandoned road had a ghostly,...

Hiking- Summer 2015 - Part 1

Ah!! Summer now seems so far away! it is dark, and rainy here right now... so fall is in full swing! Back in the summer, I remember sitting in the sun cursing at how hot it was, and then I remembered that by December, I would be wishing for a hot day. Here is to the memories of the summer hiking. May 2015- Hiking at Pine Grove Furnace - I love Pine Grove !! that park is amazing! First, it is a beautiful park, with a lot of space and things for people to do. With the big lake on one side for swimming and the beach, and the Lake on the other side for boating. We packed a picnic and sat by the beach with our food. It was quiet, but full of happy noise at the same time. We spend some time at the beach playing with the sand and a Frisbee. The day was warm, and the breeze was cool on our face. It was a fantastic day! We also went for a short walk around the rental places they have there, made us want our own home inside the park.         Wild...

When are we going Hiking again?

"When are we going Hiking again?" Asks Roger as I lay in the couch crying over Katniss volunteering for her sister, even thought I've watched this movie 6 or 7 times, and read the books 3 times, this scene still gets me. "I don't know," I answer wiping my tears away. We haven't gone hiking since we went to see Turkey Point with my sister, back in October. We have had a super busy month. Between moving, going to Florida and visiting my family; every weekend has been taken up by an activity or other. This last weekend we met up with my siblings to go see Mockinjay part 2, a date that has been scheduled since early August. and Sunday I had a 5K and a long run after. So we decided to make our long run on Sunday a trail run. Pick a park, find a trail and run it... and walk if we have to. Therefore exploring the park and nature, as we also run our miles for the week. We picked Memorial Lake State Park , and decided to cut our run to 5 miles, since the p...

Hiking- Spring 2015

So, at the beginning of the year, Roger and I started with big plans to hike tons of parks and explore more places, then in June we started half marathon training and our hiking was decreased. However, before that, we got to hike some pretty awesome spots! Colonel Denning State Park We hiked The Flat Rock Trail at Colonel Denning state Park after my Hershey 10K, what was at that time the longest distance I had run. My legs were not very tired, and I was determined to keep moving through the day, but I did hurt my toe nail during the race, likely because my shoes were too small. My toe was throbbing and I started to think it was broken, but that didn't stop me from going hiking. And the 2.5 mile climb to Flat Rock was completely worth the pain. The view from up there was amazing! Most parts of the hike were going uphill, so we had to stop to catch our breath a few times. The view was so amazing, that we would definitely go back, hopefully this time with no painful and thr...
