Image
Date of Race : October 16, 2016 at 7:30 am. Temperatures: Cloudy, starting temperatures of 45. No wind. Race Website: Chocolate Town Challenges Goodies: Tech shirt, two tickets to Hershey Park and an $8 coupon, reusable grocery bag, recovery lunch bag. Before the Race So, I have this issue with arriving late to work... even though they pay me to arrive on time. But I have a weird tendency to arrive at races 1 hour before they start. We arrived to Hershey at 6:15 am. I have told myself to think of work as an all day race, a race of sitting down, and pushing buttons on a computer keyboard, but something about not getting a shirt and a banana, makes it not feel like a race at all. We picked up a bagel and coffee before the race, and ate while waiting for the sunrise. I had a feeling that this would not be enough, but kept reassuring myself that I would be fine. Race started promptly at 7:30. The Race I start out half marathons really slow, I want to try to save the ...

The Best of my Year- Running Stuff- Favorite Races

Image
Hello dear Random Strangers! Thank you for stopping by to read my ramblings on things. This is likely to be the last of my post for this year, as I have off from work, and will be spending lots of time with my son. So, wanted to go back and relive some of my favorite races of the year. My favorite Races It is really hard to pick a favorite race, I really did love all 17 of them! But the three that immediately jump to my mind are The Kennett Run, Bird In Hand 5K, and The Hershey Half Marathon. Kennett Run 5K There are many reasons for the Kennett Run to be my favorite run, it's the first race I did in The United States, and it's one that I've been doing for years. This year most of my family was there for the event, my sisters and I ran the 5K. My brothers looked after my son and my niece, and we went to My sister's bakery after the race. The race itself is hard! The first mile goes slightly uphill with some rolling hills, but with all of the excitement, my legs...

3 days to the Hershey Half Marathon

The road has been long, the runs has been long, the work outs have been difficult, the injuries have been there, and now after 4.5 months of training, the Hershey Half Marathon is 3 days away. I need to do a quick mental review for myself, just to remind myself that I have done all the work I needed to do well. My Map My run said that I have done 300 miles of running, interval training, walking and hiking. 300 miles seems like such a huge number! Injuries (All self-diagnosed) Shin Splints, left posterior- I had not known pain such as that of shin splints! It came about after I increased my mileage too fast.   I went from comfortably running 3 miles to 5, almost overnight. Icing, streching and compression sleeves fixed me up. The icing helped so much more than I could imagine. Bruised rib- As I was learning how to breathe and my lungs were learning to expand while running long distances and hills I bruised my ribs. It hurt to take a deep breath for about 3 we...

The Road to the Hershey Half- 3 weeks to train

April 2015- Completed my first 10K, and survived with no major injuries! Meaning, I had shin splints for a while, but they have for the most part gone away. My grandmother passed the day after, and while grieving her passing, my heart was not into running, or really moving at all, but I forced myself to get up and go to work. Roger and I started talking about the Hershey Half Marathon, and jokingly I mentioned that it could be split up, because they offer a relay option. He could do half and I could do half. We laughing agree to split it. It would still be finisher medals for both, Hershey In the Dark tickets for both and tshirts for both. We left it at that and continued eating our French toast. May 2015. I had 3 5Ks runs that month, Kat’s Angels, Kennett Run, and the Color Run. I kept up with some of my 10K training, but wasn’t overly worried. I started doing more weights and yoga, and again Roger and I talked about the Hershey half. I don’t know why we are not capable of be...
