Philly Rock 'n' Roll Half 2017 Recap

Image
Race Details Cost : $56 + processing. I registered in National Running day, with the special discount. Goodies : Woman's tech cut shirt, and free samples + snacks and beverages post race. Temperatures : 70 F (21.11 C)  with 89% humidity, overcast. What I wore: shorts, 2 sport bras, hat and socks. The Expo My son loves going to Race expos, he knows there will be free candy for kids, and other free items. Right after we picked up Roger's and my bib, he got a free head wrap, and a drawstring bag. Then my sister and him played a game at the Toyota booth, and got some type of charging device. He also got lollypops and temporary tattoos.   The Morning of The Race I'll confess that one of my least favorite things about doing this half marathon, is driving to Philadelphia before the sun is up on a Sunday morning. But up we went. One of the perks of such a drive, is that I get to spend time with my sister, and we got all caught up on family gossip. It's not really go

Before I get on the details of the race, I dedicated this race to Dawn , a woman from another agency my office worked with. She passed away last week, after a battle with Cancer. I met Dawn in 2006, when she came to audit my files for another program, although we made mistakes and our files were not always perfect, Dawn was always kind and worked with us on corrections. Dawn, your bright smile and kind spirit will be very much missed here. Race Details Cost: $95 ( I registered late) Goodies: long sleeve woman's cut tech shirt, running hat, post race beer, snacks and medal. Weather Conditions : Sunny start of the race 45F (7.22 C), 55F ( 12.77) at the end of the race.   I do not remember how I found this race... but knew that a Mother's day race sounded like something awesome to do. My sister agreed to watch my son, and I signed up. The registration process was super simple and was done on my phone, while in line for coffee<- True Story.   Bib pick up was on Saturday

Philly Rock ‘n Roll Half Race Date: September 18, 2016 Weather: Cloudy, 76% humidity, 76 at start of the race, little windy.   Race Website: http://www.runrocknroll.com/philadelphia/ Goodies: Shirt, small free samples in the race bag and snacks at the end of the race. Long Race Recap coming up- and this is the abbreviated version, without the fight on leaving at 5:30 am and who forgot what ...  but summary at the end. Feel free to look at the pictures and read the summary, I won't judge.     Bib Pick up   Bib Pick up was in Philadelphia on Saturday and Friday. We headed out there on Saturday, after soccer.   Rock ‘n’ Roll races are so large, that they only allow bib pick up during the Expo days. I asked and pleaded for DC, this is how I learned this. This was the second time I’ve taken my son to a running expo, and he LOVED it ! He carried my sister’s bag and told everybody he came across that he would be running the Half Marathon, and that it was his

Date of the Race: 9.10.16 Race Website : http://www.bihfire.com/events/run-ride-soar/ Weather: Start 73 with a real feel of 86. Finish 78 with a real feel of 96. Goodies: Tech shirt, and whoopee pie, and post race picnic Hold on to something... this will be long. But if you don't feel like reading all of it, feel free to skip to my summary at the end. We were up dark and early on Saturday and driving to Bird In Hand. I stayed at my parents because the drive to BIH was shorter from Oxford than from Harrisburg. I picked up a bad habit when I was training for the Marathon in the spring, and that was to have a breakfast sandwich before a race, rather than a bagel and coffee. The only place selling breakfast sandwiches at 5:30 am was McDonalds, so I order an Egg McMuffin, OJ and coffee. My coffee didn’t have any sugar, and I was at the start line when I realized this. So black unsweetened coffee it was!   Again, we enjoyed the hot air balloon launch as we parked the car an

Gettysburg Marathon Training Week #11

Last week I skipped my training log, and did a Good Bye to Rita instead, after she passed away unexpectedly. Her passing had an effect on training for Roger, who had been with Rita for 13 years. So this week, trying to bounce back, and recover from the R 'n R DC Half Marathon. Monday- Rest day. Tuesday- Blue Man Day Wednesday - 1 hour of zumba, and 30 minute easy run Thursday - Rest Friday- 20 mile long run Saturday - Rest day Sunday - 6 mile progression run, 3 easy miles and 30 minutes of weights I hope everybody already knows this, but use this as a cautionary tale... tell your friends that you have a friend, who has a friend who this happened to....The Saturday of the Half Marathon, Roger and I used the portable toilets before starting the race. We waited a long time in line to use them. Race started at 7:30, but there were lots of corrals, leaving every 2 minutes. We were still in line when the first 5 corrals were released. Roger is *always* way cautious about h
