Friday Five- 12.09.16
Hello Friday! how are you today? I am so happy it's Friday! If you are reading this between 11 and 1 pm on Friday, I am wrapping presents for kids at my son's school.... probably highly caffeinated, that is the only way I can tolerate more than 4 kids at one time.
I'm linking up with Running on Happy & Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0. Theme today is items I wish I hadn't purchased.... not a hate post, this items simply didn't work for me .... can we say a collective Ouch? most involved chaffing and/ or blisters.
1. Feetures Socks - I bought this ones at my local running store. My running store didn't have any Injinjis, so I sucked up and picked up the Feetures. This socks will give me blisters no matter how long I run, how much Vaseline I put on my toes or which shoes I'm wearing. This have become regular walking socks. Never running in them again.
2. This Brooks Sneakers- Back in March of this year, I was training for my first marathon, and was sure that buying Brooks sneakers would make me a better runner... I have no idea where I got this idea.... So I ordered a pair of Brooks Pure Flow on line and waited for the best. The shoes were ok, but felt heavier than my Nike Free. I wore them in a few long runs, and ended up getting a pain in the bottom of my right foot after 6 miles. This shoes are now my "trail running shoes". Note to Self: Shoes don't make you a better runner, Running makes you a better runner.
3. This sports Bra- It was wonderful for training and long runs in the humidity, it was cheap too. It got me through BIH Half, without any issues! This sports bra was the perfection I had been looking for in a Sports Bra, until the Philly R'n'R Half marathon, when it chaffed my boob so badly, that it scarred.
4. This Nike Hat- I bought it with a set of gloves last year, but the gloves were stolen from me. The hat has a seam that rubs my forehead.... I guess that's what I get for having a big forehead!
And ONE thing I'm on the fence about
5. . This shorts- I love this shorts.... but they give me a wedgie, and they chaffed my leg at Philly R'n'R Half too. But they make me feel fast and light. I also hate the overly decorated top of them, but I hide it with my black tops.
What are your favorite socks?
Do you have a sports bra that went Rogue?
How do you keep your shorts from giving you wedgies?

I love Injinjis and don't think I could go back to regular socks.
ReplyDeleteInjinjis are the best! I love how comfy they are!
DeleteI love most of the Feetures socks. I almost exclusively run in them.
ReplyDeleteBrooks -----> I'm kind of sad to say that I think that the switch from Mizunos to Pure Flows and/or Launch 3s:(
Feetures work for a lot of people, and I know they have lots of fans, they just don't work for me! It's very strange!
DeleteI got a black toenail from my Feetures! I like SmartWool, those SLS3 low compression, and ProCompression low socks.
ReplyDeleteI have gotten many blisters... because I was sure the fist 3 times were a fluke!! and kept trying ! I didn't learn!
DeleteI'll check out those too, thanks Wendy!
I got a pair of Injinjis but sadly, they were just awful! I had such high hopes to avoiding blisters, but alas, they're just not for me. I love Feetures and Balega. I lube up my toes for distance runs and it's all good.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why socks work different for people? I can't do Feetures, but they have others who are big fans! I overdue the lube with the feetures and still got blisters, not even worth trying for me anymore.
DeleteWhen I run long distance it seems like I get blisters no matter what socks I wear or what products I use before hand...womp womp. My sister had a pair of the pure flows and didn't like them so gave them to me, I didn't like them either so I think I may have donated them (or else they are still in my basement).
ReplyDeleteI have had luck with injinjis and Under Armour socks and lots of jelly! It seems when doing races, I'll get at least 1 blister no matter what socks I wear.
DeleteI wear a lot of different socks for short runs, but for distance (anything 10K+), I'm in SmartWool no-shows. Even in the heat of summer, those wool socks are pure gold for me ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just noticed your Pennsylvania location...our oldest daughter moved to Hanover a few months ago. Any suggestions on races in the vicinity? We're in Iowa, but I'd love to find a race to do sometime when we're out that way. ;-)
DeleteI'll check out smartwool, for sure will need something wooly in the winter!
DeleteI commented on your blog about races, let me know what dates you have in mind!
AMEN on the Feetures. I know lots of people like them but I just totally don't!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Brooks Pure Flow in theory...I always wish they could be a good shoe for me because they look so pretty and I feel like they'd be nice shoes. Matt wears them when he bothers to run. But they're not made for my gait!
I know that brooks is a good company and have excellent running stuff, but for me, Nike Free has been my best running shoes. They do look so cool and I wanted to like them!
DeleteWhy doesn't your doctor like them? My sister had a pair of pure connects 4, which had a wider toe box, and she loved them! that's why I got them. But the ones I have are very narrow on the front and having my toes squeezed together is what creates the pain for me.
ReplyDeleteI need to give Balega a try.
