Friday Five 4.14.17

Image
Happy Friday! I'm super late to the party, but better late than never! I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness . Here are 5 races I have in my radar for the Spring... I haven't registered for them, but I'm training to run them. 1. Delaware Half Marathon on Mothers day- I'm calling this my mother's day gift to myself, and it sounds really cool to run in another state! 2. Kennett Run - Debating on wether to do the 5K or 10K. I have run the 5K for the last 5 years, and had considered upgrading to the 10K, but the race organizers have changed the course. I'm going to make this decision by flipping a coin. But if I do the 5K, I have to beat my 5K time. 3. Chester County Tough Mudder- this is a brand new addition, a co-worker just invited yesterday and I'm checking out details for it. 4. Iron Run Trail Half- Roger loved running the half marathon in February, so we are doing this one mostly for hi...

Weekly Wrap 4.9.17

Happy Wednesday! This week it's  my son's spring break, and we are doing random small adventures, that are keeping me from the computer. I'm a little late with my weekly wrap, but here it goes. Workouts Monday- 3 easy miles and weights Saturday - Hershey 10K Sunday- 9 easy miles. On Monday, I met up with my friend Jodi for a short run, and some life talk. We had such a great conversation! I know there is no pictures, but it did happen! Thursday, I met up my sister in Philadelphia for a show. We went to see Cabaret, it was the first time she saw it, and she thought it was weird... but I loved it! I loved spending time with her, and having a night out in the theater, it makes me feel like a grown up. Unfortunately, this caused me to lose some sleep. I took the train in to work from Chester County Pa, but felt like I was the Walking Dead after work! My body only wanted to sleep and drink water. On Saturday, I had the hardest time getting up for the 10K. For...

Friday Five- Drink With Me!

Image
Happy Friday!! how are you today? I am functioning on 4.5 hours of sleep, and 16 oz of coffee! Please forgive me if this post is a bit disheveled... my brain is currently out for a vacation. I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness . Today's theme, Beverages. Random facts about me. I am not big on sweets, or chocolate. It is not until recently that I have started enjoying desserts, but I LOVE sweet beverages! Here are my five favorite beverages. <-- this is also the part where I warn you that there isn't one healthy or green beverage in my list.   1. Coffee- Oh coffee! it runs through my veins, it brings me life, it brings me comfort. Put me down for all the black coffee, all the time! Likely Not My cookie... and it was, I only had 2 bites. 2. Coke- I have loved Coke since I was 3. Here is this amazing picture of my holding on to my bottle of coke, like it was a beloved doll. I was 3 in ...

How I Deal With Stress

Image
Yesterday I posted a very passive aggressive meme on Instagram. It's not like me to be passive aggressive,  I've always taken pride on being direct, honest and full on aggressive if need be. But yesterday I was really stressed out at work, blame was being put on me for something I didn't do, and I was told that this specific manager was waiting for me to mess up on something. I'm not friends with this person on any social media, so there is no way that my passive aggressiveness message will get to her. But yesterday, more than anything, I wanted to go to an hour long zumba class, followed by a 5 mile run. Unfortunately, my schedule didn't allow it. Instead, I rewarded my stress with food and singing really loud in my car. I also might have accidentally singed up for another race... I say rewarded with food, because stress makes me think of ways to take care of myself, and in this case, the only thing that was going to hold me together was melty cheese and warm...

Weekly Wrap 04.02.17

Good Morning!! Happy April! I'm  linking up with Holly and Tricia  this week for the weekly wrap. This week was mostly recovery. I've been having pain on both of my shins, more painful on the right side. Workouts: Tuesday: Hill repeats and warm up. 2 miles and Cardio Funk Wednesday: Zumba and weights Friday: 2 easy miles Sunday: 2 easy miles and weights My icepack was attached to my shins this week. It seemed the pain jumped from one side to the other all week. This caused me to have no motivation to run at all. 2 miles felt impossible and too painful. Still, some hills were ran on Tuesday   And I have finally upgraded to having real weights in my bar!! They are tiny, but it's an improvement for me! In other news. Work has been busy, we are hiring for a case manager job at our office, so we have had multiple interviews. One question that is starting to annoy me is this one : How do you organize your day? and it's bugging me, because 5 ou...

Move-A- Thon My 3 hours of Zumba

Image
Zumba is one of my favorite things to do! I've loved to dance since college, but it's hard to find a partner who is good at Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue, Banda and random popular music. I have only met 1 man in my entire life who was a good dancer at all of those... and I wanted to marry him! But he wanted nothing to do with me. Oh well, his loss! Then, in 2011 Zumba entered my life and I have not needed a partner to dance since. The local YMCA was having a 3 hour zumba class, it is my understanding that this event has been taking place for more than 6 years, but this was the first time I could participate. The event was a fundraiser for ALS, and it cost $30 to participate. There was also the option to fundraise $100 to get a shirt.... being a runner, I'm used to getting a shirt for dropping $30, so it made me sad to not get a shirt I was never going to wear. < Weird how that psychology works. The Event was 4- 40 minute sessions with breaks in between. This is the p...

Hello Monday!! How are you today? How is your day going?   I'm  linking up with Holly and Tricia  this week for the weekly wrap. Work outs Monday: Zumba and weights Thursday: 3.75 miles and Zumba Friday: 4 miles easy pace and weights Saturday: 3 hours Move-a-Thon Zumba and 5 mile hike Sunday: Zumba and 6 tempo (ish) miles Last week Roger and I decided that we were stopping our training for a Marathon this spring. We were behind from the beginning of the year, and we simply never caught up. For the rest of that day I walked around feeling lost. I know it's overly dramatic, but that's exactly how I felt. The best solution for feeling lost... go for a run. There is more marathons later this year.   Do All The Zumba This week was super zumba heavy and I loved it all so much! Monday I tried a new Zumba place, Zumba with Cat. I do zumba with Cat on Thursdays at the YMCA, and she is one of my favorite instructors there. When Megan posted the other ...

Friday Five - Food

Image
Happy Friday!! how are you today? I'm joining the Friday 5 Link up with    Running on Happy  &  Fairytales and Fitness . The theme today is food, and I LOVE talking about food! Today I want to tell you about eating during Lent. I used to not observe Lent, but after my grandmother passed away, I chose to observe Lent in her memory. For anybody who is not Catholic, Lent is the 40 days leading up to Easter, in which we cannot have meat on Fridays and give up 1 (or more) thing that we enjoy for those 40 days. I gave up Cheesteaks. I am not a vegetarian, and I have a deep respect for those who are vegetarians or vegans. Here are 5 meat free meals that are my favorites for meat free Fridays 1. Avocado Rolls - The new love of my life! 2 . Vegetable Hibachi at Tokyo Diner- It has the perfect ratio of broccoli and onions! and I love my onions a lot!! 3. Rice and eggs- when I was little, my mom used to make Mexican rice and boiled eggs. It was one ...

Belly Inquiries

Image
A couple of weekends ago, I was visiting my family for my niece's and sister's birthday celebrations. I didn't know what to wear, it was a kid's party, which would likely require me to be on the floor playing with my niece, and my son. But I wore a stripped dress. I felt uncomfortable on it the whole night, but didn't think about it much that night. The next day, as I was getting ready to leave, my sister came over and patted my stomach and said "tuck in your belly, it looks chubby!" I rolled my eyes at her and said "Don't pat my belly fat!" Then my mom came over and said "Your belly was looking very roundish last night, is there something you want to tell us?" "Yes! " I said in an overly excited tone. "I want to tell you that I'm ready to make my love of bread and tacos to a new level and attempt to make a taco torta!". They laughed and moved on. But I didn't. That thought stayed with me... why do ...

Lucky Charm 10K

Image
Race Details Cost: $45 + Processing fees ( I hate processing fees,  I would prefer they lied to me and gave me a flat fee). Route: Harrisburg Downtown to uptown and back. Goodies : Woman cut cotton shirt, Fleet Feet Coupon (upon completing the race), free beer with Bib, and medal. Weather: 40, cloudy, no wind, super light mist.   Most of my running friends did this race last year, and I was left feeling completely left out. I am almost certain I've said it here before, but I don't like doing races on the days that my son is with me. But I make a few exceptions each year, but only because my sister agrees to watch him while I run. My son himself asks for this dates with his Tia, and they end up having a great time together. The race started in Downtown Harrisburg, there were two distances 5K and 10K. Both starting at the same time. The race started on time, which I always appreciate!     OmG!! I am not capable of writing a normal ...
