I am a Marathon Finisher!

Image
Good Morning World! How is everybody doing today? This morning I woke up with sore legs, and that reminded me that Today I'm a marathon Finisher ! Trying to not hit myself in the face with the medal, looking like I'm strangling myself! Thank you all very much for all the positive comments and cyber support! I thought of your words as I was running the marathon! I will go back and respond to your comments, I promise. I will comeback and do a proper recap, after I have caught up with some things at work, and I've had a little more time to rest and recover... right now I think I need a nap! Both Roger and I finished the Gettysburg Marathon, one in more pain than the other, but we did those 26.2 Miles! For me it was an amazing experience, one that I hope to be able to accomplish again in my life! My sisters came out and cheered for us, and met us at the finish line. They were amazing!! I love those girls so much! My little sister caught me at the end and held...

Goal Review Spring 2016

Image
Aahh! When a New Year starts, it feels like everything is possible, like all change and bad habits of the year before can be left behind and start new... until February rolls around and one realizes that one still loves Quarter Pounders, Coke and Instagram! Today I'm linking up for The Tuesdays on The Run, hosted by Patty ,  Erika , and  Marcia , where the subject is Goal Check in. Races Planned but skipped Hershey 10K Bunny Palooza 10K Garden Spot Half Marathon I had to skip all three races. All, because I was sick for two weeks, and recovery took a long time. Done Race in DC - R 'n R DC Half In Progress Gettysburg Marathon- This Sunday Registered for Kennett Run Bird in Hand Half Marathon Food I have only had 1 Quarter Pounder meal since January. Gettysburg Marathon Training Week #14

Image
Hello World!! It is a brand new week! Marathon is 6 days away, and I'm not letting myself think about it too much, or obsess about the weather, because I have no control over time or weather! I hope everybody who is running Boston is having a great Marathon! Last week was a an up and down of emotions, one day I was happy and fine, other days I was irritable, then I realized that the anniversary of my grandmother's passing was in April 12, and that my body was adding extra hormones on my moods. All my runs this month are dedicated to my Grandmother and my nephew Mario. Monday- Rest, because the wicked have to take days off. Tuesday- 1 hour Hip Hop with Denise. Wednesday - 1 hour of zumba, 2 mile run with sprints. Thursday- Rest Friday- 15 miles. Saturday- Rest day Sunday - 8 easy miles. Monday My son's Baseball Junior League had practice 2 days this week, so we worked on homework. I cannot believe my son is working on fractions! He is in 1st grade and l...

My Life as a Musical -Gettysburg Marathon Playlist

Image
I have a confession to make, I am a runner who sings at races... yup! adding another level of crazy to this awesome package of a runner! When running the Hershey Half, I sang most of the race to keep myself from overthinking. Last Sunday, my mp3 blessed me with lots of songs from Musicals, most of which I sang... so here are some of the jams that will be making an appearance in my Gettysburg Marathon playlist Who am I? ( Jean Valjean Soliloquy ) by Hugh Jackman- I've loved Les Miserables since I was around 11, and when the movie came out, you better believe I was the first in line at my local movie theater to see it. I love Colm Wilkinson , and know that we are destined to be together... but this version when Jackman cries brings me all the feelings. Stars by Phillip Quast - Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Concert. Don't Rain On My Parade by Barbara Streisand. Seasons of Love- by the Cast of Rent. This song hit me hard after my grandmother passed last year, but w...

Way Back Wednesday - I miss Cordy

Image
This is not a running related Post. I was just thinking of my doggy, Cordelia, who is still alive, but no longer belongs to me. I got Cordelia as a gift from a student when I worked for an Out Of School Youth Program. Cordy the first day we had her, napping by the lamp Cordelia will be turning 10 in April 30. Cordy was a mix of Cockapoo, Maltese, and Pekinese dog. She has the softest fur, and her hair can grow very long. Before my Divorce, Cordelia went to live with my Ex's parents. I never gave permission, this just "happened". I didn't fight it, because my son was only 2 and all my time went to him. After my divorce, there was no formal agreement made to see Cordelia, and I couldn't afford to have her full time, so I didn't fight for her to be with me.   Cordelia is named after the character from the TV Show Angel. In 2008, Cordy got stung by a bee, and her liver almost shut down. After spending 12 hours at the Dogg...

You signed up for a 5K! Now properly plan it! - Advice to my runner self from 4 years ago

Image
Today I'm linking up with Marcia , Erika and Patty on their Tuesdays On The Run Link up , the subject, Advice to My New Runner Self. I did my first 5K in Mexico, in 1997. It was a school organized race, part of the Student Day Festivities that lasted all day long. I mean, what better way to get antsy teens to chill, than having them run 3.1 miles at 7 am?? We had to make our own bibs, and we didn't train. Memories of that day are still blurry, but my friends and I did finish it. Fast forward 3 years later, I ran another 5K in Kennett Square PA. Didn't train. Bought new shoes. Came in second to last place at 42 minutes. I learned nothing from those early races.   Then in 2012 , after having been doing Zumba for 1 year, My younger sister and I decided to TRAIN and Run the Kennett Run 5K. We had been talking about it for years, and decided this was the year we will put our words to action. We made plans, we trained, we kept each other accountable. But we started making ...

Gettysburg Marathon training week #13

Image
I'm sitting here typing as a lot of my body is sore, I haven't been sore in a while. Here is some of what I did this week of training: Monday- back to Zumba- 1 hour.  Tuesday- rest day. My son had his first junior baseball practice, and I walked around the field while he practiced.  Wednesday - rest day Thursday- 5 mile run with the Fleet Feet group.  Friday- 3.1 easy miles with Roger. 30 minutes of weights.  Saturday- 1 hour of power Zumba, 20 minutes of weighs and 1 mile of track exercises.  Sunday- 17 miles long run. Monday- Went back to Zumba to find out that the studio will no longer be housed at Lemoyne after September. There were some disagreements with the owners, and Art in Motion Fitness will be moving... if they find a new place. This was very sad news! It will be awful if they can't find a place! My lungs felt like they were going to pop open, but it felt great to be back at Zumba. Tuesday - My son has started Junior B...
