Hiking Susquehannock Park

Good morning everybody! how is everybody doing today?

On Memorial Day we headed out for our first hike of the year. We went to Susqehannock State Park. We had been wanting to go there since last year, and finally made it there.

The drive from our place to the park was about 1hour and 20 minutes. It was a lot closer than other parks we have been to. and it was really easy to find.

We arrived and grabbed a map, and headed for the nearest trail, which took us to the big overview of the Susquehanna. That area was also a bird watching area, and we saw a few birds flying around.

We walked over the short distance to another overlook, a family that was walking by warned us that there was a garden snake hanging out by a rock close by. We didn't see it.

We kept walking in what look like a long trail, but ended up at the parking lot by the entrance. We looked at the map, and picked a different trail and headed back.

This trail was a steep downhill, and I was wearing my glasses. I slid on a branch, or a rock, lost my balance and fell. I scraped my elbow and my knee. No further injury, but it was scary. I have never fallen on a run or a hike before.

The climb up was rough! And we felt it the next day!

A family of a Dad and his two kids asked if they could pass us in the narrow trail, the one kid was running up the hill like it was nothing! All I could think as they ran past us was "Here is the next Scott Jurek".

The park was smaller than we have hiked before, but I really love the overviews of the River. We might go back for a short hike or a short trail run.

  1. It is terrifying to fall! I've had it happen a couple of times and also scraped myself up. I am glad your injuries weren't debilitating! Your pictures are really beautiful. Wow on the next Scott Jurek, that kid must have really been tearing it up!

  3. I plan to do a few trails like this this summer. Have you done Bushkill Falls? On the trail you did, did you wear running shoes are hiking boots?

    1. Ladies at F&F, I have not been to Bushkill falls yet, but it's on our list.

I wear trail running shoes when hiking, they are light and grippy, I really like them!

  4. That looks like a very nice hike! I enjoy hiking -- maybe the weather will cooperate so that I can go on a short one around here tomorrow.
